Kimi Raikkonen has been excluded from Abu Dhabi GP qualifying and sent to the back of Sunday’s grid after his Lotus car failed Formula 1’s floor test.
The Finn had qualified in fifth place on Saturday but will now start from the back of the 22-car field after his E21 fell foul of the asymmetric front floor deflection test.
After being summoned to the stewards in the hours after qualifying, Lotus argued that “the relevant part broke upon contact with a kerb” – the same case they successfully made when Romain Grosjean’s E21 failed the same test after qualifying at the Hungarian GP in July.
