Three time Formula 1 world champion and Australian racing legend Sir Jack Brabham has died at the age of 88.
Brabham won world titles in 1959 and 1960 before going on to set up his own team. In 1966, he claimed his third world title, and remains the only person to have won a championship racing in his own car.
During his fifteen year spell in the sport, “Black Jack” claimed 14 race wins and 13 pole positions. He was the first Australian driver to win a world championship, and remains the most successful F1 driver to come from Australia.
He was knighted in 1979, and is one of the true legends in the history of the sport. Racing remained in the family, with his son David also racing in Formula 1 in the 1990s. His grandsons, Matthew and Sam, have also begun their racing careers in the last few years, and the Brabham dynasty has since been made available to the public online.
