Jones: Ricciardo will keep feet on ground

Ex-Formula 1 World Champion Alan Jones is confident that fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo will keep his feet on the ground after the Red Bull driver secured his maiden victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo, who collected two podium finishes in the run up to the Montreal event, took advantage of Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg’s persistent technical trouble by snatching the lead on the penultimate lap of the race.

And Jones reckons that instead of having a detrimental effect, the result will make Ricciardo even stronger, tipping the 24-year-old to eventually join him and the late Sir Jack Brabham as Australian title winners.

“I think he’s down to earth, which is what I like about him,” Jones explained to The West Australian.

“I don’t think all this will go to his head. I think he’ll still be down to earth with his two feet on the ground.

“It’s a wonderful family – it’s a bloody credit to the family. He’s doing Australia proud.”
