Räikkönen blames damage for slump

Kimi Räikkönen has blamed car damage for his disappointing finish in Sunday’s German Grand Prix.

The Finn, on an opposing tyre strategy after his elimination from the second phase of qualifying, was involved in multiple collisions in the early stages of the race.

He first made contact with Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton, before getting caught between Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso.

Räikkönen said a subsequently damaged front wing left him unable to achieve any more than 11th position.
