Felipe Massa says he was “screaming” for the Japanese Grand Prix to be stopped amid heavy rainfall.
The race, which began behind the Safety Car, was red flagged and ended after 44 of the scheduled 53 laps, following Jules Bianchi’s crash at Dunlop Curve, just one lap later than Adrian Sutil’s accident at the corner.
Bianchi is understood to have collided with the recovery vehicle that was working to move Sutil’s Sauber.
Speaking to reporters after the race, Massa says he felt the race should have been halted much sooner.
“I’m very worried to hear he hit the truck,” said Massa, who has gone to the hospital where Bianchi was taken.
“They started the race too early as it was not driveable… and it finished too late. I was screaming on the radio five laps before that there was too much water but they took a little bit too long and it was dangerous.
