Only in India could Formula One’s 2,000-strong travelling army turn up for a race which has been in the diary for years to discover that the country’s highest legal authority is entertaining a petition calling for its cancellation.
Indian Grand Prix organisers were keen on Thursday night to allay fears that Sunday’s race was in jeopardy from Friday’s hearing in India’s Supreme Court, which relates to a tax dispute.
Vicky Chandhok, who heads the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, laughed off the prospect of an injunction being granted, telling Telegraph Sport “the cocktails are on me all night” if it comes to pass.
