Lewis Hamilton says pole position in Austria will be less important than at other races, given the sizeable run between Turns 1 and 2.
The Mercedes driver topped Friday practice at the Red Bull Ring, clocking a 1:09.542 to lead team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.377 seconds.
But he has suggested that the key to leading at the end of the first lap could be the run out of the first corner, with the car ahead exposed.
“I don’t actually think pole is going to be the most important thing, as there’s a long straight up to Turn 2,” Hamilton explained.
“But I’d still like to get pole and that’s my goal.”
