Bottas: “Aerodynamics is the main thing”

Though Williams has started the 2015 season better than it did at this stage last year, it is currently circulating a fairly lonely third-best behind Mercedes and Ferrari, albeit comfortably ahead of the mid-field pack.

With Williams ending the season as arguably the second strongest team behind the dominant Mercedes’, Bottas has high hopes that the team’s rate of development last year will see it encroach on the front runners before 2015 is out.

“All the time, there is good progress being made in the wind tunnel and there should be some updates for Barcelona, where hopefully we can close the gap, but it is still a long way to go before the end of the season and the rate we improved last year was good. I am still hopeful there is enough time to get really close to them [rivals].”

Asked by where he feels the specific improvements will come from, Bottas identifies tyre compounds and aerodynamics as the big gains.

“We need to have a better look how we can get more out of each compound as I think there is quite a bit in there. Aerodynamics is the main thing and anything we can improve with the car we are looking at.”
